Why
do you need a Doula?
Traditionally, and in many cultures now, women are provided with
nurturing help and encouragement by female relatives after the birth
of a new baby. Today, many women are left on their own with the
overwhelming task of recovery and caring for a new infant, multiples,
or an adopted baby. What should be a time of welcoming, celebrating,
and nesting, often becomes stressful and difficult for the whole
family. With the help of a Postpartum Doula, a family can experience
a smooth transition. A good beginning lasts a lifetime!

What
is a Postpartum Doula?
"Doula" is an ancient Greek word meaning "a mother's
caring helper." Today's postpartum doulas are trained, experienced
professionals. Like the Honeymoon after a wedding, they recognize
the importance of the "Babymoon" period, the 4-6 special
postpartum weeks. They are a quiet presence in the home, providing
assistance and support to the whole family, while adjusting to the
blessed arrival of a new baby. A Doula's support offers mothers an
opportunity for critical recovery and solid bonding with the newborn
infant(s), or adopted baby. |
